What Happen When I Have A Leak In My Home

Roofing
You may be asking yourself right now; "What happens when you have a leak inside your home?” There may be many things and factors to take into consideration when thinking about what may be causing a leak inside your home. The first thing to take into consideration is the age of the property. Age is a big factor when thinking about leaks, most property owners fail to get their homes inspected once every 3 years. The second thing you must take into consideration is most residential property owners are not thinking about the outside of their homes, and the conditions that it has to endure against. The third thing and is usually the first thing that comes into mind is busted pipes, especially if there's a lot of water pouring in.

Age

When you're thinking about leaks, the age of a property is an important factor to take into consideration especially if the leak coming from outside of the property. The exterior of your property, which comprises of your roofing, siding, gutters, and the shutters that are attached to your property. The exterior of your property is it first line of defense against nature and the elements. Your roof which protects you from rain, sleet, snow, and the wind consists of materials like roofing shingles and felt paper. After a while and overtime your roof will sustain damage from the wind, hail, snow, squirrel and bats, that will degrade it and start making it useless against these threats. As these two materials which your roof is made of start to worn down, water is more likely to get inside your commercial or residential property more easily. Most of the time, a leak usually starts off by something as small as a blown off shingle tab that was not installed properly or an old shingle that has been battered for some years. The next exterior product that offers your property protection against leaks, is your siding. Just like roofing, your siding needs to be inspected at least once every 3 years. There are at least 17 different types of siding and they include; Vinyl, wood, brick, metal fiber wood are some that are on the list. The best type of siding in our opinion is brick, the reason we say this is because it is durable and will last for at least 50 years or more. Brick Siding will also stand up to some strong fires and corrosion if its made with good materials. Vinyl siding is the second best siding material to have attached to your home, if you're going to have the best protection against leaks and hail. Both of these types of sidings have advantages and disadvantages, you just have to research which siding product works best for your home. Things to also take into consideration when considering which siding product will be the most effective for your property is the region you live in. Age is something to take into consideration when you think about your property when you have a leak coming from a pipe, toilet, and faucet. If you have aging pipes you may want to call a plumber and have them do a proper inspection, and we also recommend that your have all of your home including your pipes inspected every 3 years. By getting an early inspection, you know where you and your property stand at as far as future leaks are concerned. Many construction, remodeling, companies usually offer free inspections and estimates. As a property owner it's best that you take advantage of these free inspections to avoid future leaks.

Conditions

A home doesn't just start gushing out water immediately, leaks take the right conditions like improperly sealed siding or aging attic wood that needs replacement. Regardless of the situation, water that's coming into your home may cause mold which is not good for no property owner. Most of the time when a leak happens, it's not over night that leaks happen, most of the time its from something that's already damaged in the property, and water just happens to be around. As the property owner it's your job to make sure your property is up to standard like the first day you purchased it or finished building it.
